We did it again! But this year was better than ever.
On November 9, 2018 at Charles H. Flowers High School, IMPACTdmv hosted the 4th Annual IMPACT Panel. Over 300 seniors were granted the opportunity to interact and network with a dynamic group of hand-selected panelists. The IMPACT Panel is a collection of young professionals with various backgrounds. Panelists participate to share their post-high school journeys and provide advice to students entering adulthood. From media personalities to technical engineers, Flowers students received diverse perspectives on accomplishing post-grad goals.
The purpose of the IMPACT Panel is to show seniors that there are options after high school. This year we wanted to push the envelope by asking more thought provoking questions, tackling topics that are directly impacting our community, and of course increasing the fun. Senior year of high school can be one of the most stressful times for a student, as many are not sure what to do after graduation. Students also face pressure to pursue colleges or universities, even though this may not be their personal choice. The IMPACT Panel shows students that they have the potential to choose career paths that lead to professions similar to many of the panelist like entrepreneurship, radio personalities, fashion designers, and software developers.
The panel was moderated by Armani McMillan, but students really navigated the conversation by submitting their own questions via the live #IMPACTdmv hashtag on Twitter and Instagram. Panelists connected with students by revealing intimate personal tribulations and triumphs. And students gained valuable advice and resources in between jumping at the opportunity to catch an IMPACT tee shirt (literally). Following the panel, students were able to meet panelists and network in the senior lounge for advice, photos, and fun.
We are grateful for the support from UPS, Flowers High School staff and administration and also thankful for a wonderful group of students. Year four was a success and set the bar extremely high for year 5!
